Fidelis Legal Services are delighted to announce that Associate Supervisor Lee Fotherby has achieved his STEP Advanced Certificate in Will Preparation. This is Lee’s second qualification from the prestigious Society of Trust & Estate Practitioners since Fidelis Legal Services became an Employer Partner of the organisation in 2021.
Lee's Career As A Will Writer
Lee has worked for Lincoln based Fidelis Legal Services ever since leaving 6th Form 12 years ago and the business has been keen to support his training and development throughout. Previously, prior to Fidelis taking the opportunity of partnering with STEP, Lee achieved all three certification levels with the Institute of Professional Will Writers. STEP is the global, professional body for practitioners of estate planning, ensuring best practice and high levels of education and knowledge.
“This was the most challenging training I’ve tackled so far.” said Lee after receiving his certificate, “There’s a comprehensive 400-page manual, hours of study, and three online workshops. Then, there is an online video assessment followed by a five-hour exam!”
Challenging Legal Training
The course included both general and specific issues on dealing with tax when writing a will, and also covered situations where assets are held overseas. Lee is now reflecting on his success and giving consideration to his options for pursuing further training with STEP and exploring their selection of other advanced certification. Ultimately, these advanced certificates can lead to the full STEP Diploma.
“We are very proud of Lee and his latest achievement.” said Helen Claydon, Director and Head of Law at Fidelis Legal Services, “Especially as the STEP qualifications contain some of the most difficult training requirements in our industry.”
When not at work, or studying for industry qualifications, Lee unwinds with a weekly game of five-a-side alongside many of his work colleagues from Fidelis Legal Services.
